Why you should make the switch to using organic makeup

Why-switch-to-organic-makeup

Making the switch to organic makeup is easier than ever nowadays. With a huge selection of stunning, high quality organic makeup products on the market, and a wealth of information out there online, it is easy to ensure you are only applying safe ingredients to your face daily.

Our skin absorbs up to 60% of the ingredients from products we place on it, and the skin on our face is one of the most delicate areas of our whole body. Avoiding these ingredients will ensure you are only buying safe products that wont cause you any adverse side effects, or irritate your sensitive, delicate skin.

Parabens

Used as a preservative in many cosmetics. Parabens penetrate the skin and disrupt hormone functions, meaning it could potentially cause your body to increase or decrease its levels on certain hormones, potentially causing problems such as hormonal acne. Parabens have also been found in breast cancer tissue, leading scientists to believe it could potentially cause cancer.

Mineral Oil

A cheap product, which is used to preserve products and provide moisture to the skin. It is used in most foundations and makeup that are designed for dryer skin. When applied, it prevents the skins ability to eliminate toxins from the body, by affecting the functioning of the liver. It can also clog pores and prevent skin from breathing.

Petrolatum

Used mostly in lip products, and forms a barrier over the skin, supposedly ‘locking in moisture’. In fact, this ingredient interferes with your skins natural moisturising mechanism, leading to dry skin and chapped lips. Vaseline is petroleum jelly, have you ever wondered why you need to constantly re apply it and it never seems to make a difference to your dry lips? It is a cheap product to use, hence why many companies use it in their products.

Synthetic Colours

These are best avoided due to the increased risk of skin sensitivity and allergies they can cause. Due to them being a synthetic chemical, and an unnatural ingredient that our bodies are not supposed to absorb, skin can develop allergies and irritation from using products with synthetic colours.

Synthetic Fragrance

A concoction of chemicals used to make the product smell nice, but with many side effects that can cause problems for the wearer. Synthetic fragrances can irritate skin, cause allergies and are generally a little too harsh for our delicate skin.

So what are you waiting for? Ditch the dirty makeup and start buying clean, safe cosmetics. I PROMISE you, they are just as good, if not BETTER than the mainstream toxic brands you will find in your local department store!
